My favorite has to be the late Dr. Seuss. He wrote and illustrated 44 childrens books, some of which were made into tv shows and movies. I even hear there is an amusement park ride in Orlando. To pick a favorite is really tough. I suppose the Grinch who Stole Christmas is the classic, but I'd recommend ';Oh The Places You'll Go'; for illustrations. Dr. Seuss is hard to beat...Who is your favorite quirky illustrator, what's your favorite book they've illustrated?
Bill Sienkiewicz - did the artwork for Frank Miller's ';Elektra: Assassin,'; which is really experimental, uses many different styles, almost stream-of-consciousness. Obviously, a comics artist does more than mere illustrations, as the story is largely told through the art... but that's another issue altogether.
Lane Smith, who did The Stinky Cheese Man, is also very clever.
