They are basically the same. Photoshop has more painting, and effects features. But otherwise there really isn't anything that you can't do graphics/page wise with either program.

This comes from an old printing term - it's basically an area around the page - allowing for trim marks, notes, reg marks etc etc.
Also we use them in the trade when making up folders etc which require pockets larger than the page area.

I am creating web pages in illustrator and inDesign
and want to make the text html. Is Illustrator or InDesign better
for creating web pages, and particularly for entering text that will be interactive?
Is it the Save for Web command in Illustrator's file menu that makes the text html. and in Indesign, do I have to export the page to a pdf format and choose the right setting to have interactive text / links?

Resizing the artboard in Illustrator CS3?
I've recently started using this program (i'm more used to Photoshop) and I'm having problems resizing the artboard. I want to add space at the bottom of the document but when I resize it expands the document top and bottom which messes with my guides and layout. Is there any (easy!) way to expand the document on the bottom only?

Not that I know of. AI's not really designed for layout work 鈥?more for drawing logos and diagrams etc. You need InDesign for that sort of stuff. You can always unlock your guides and then move them just like any other object. Putting them on a separate layer makes it even easier.

I can't right click on the Tools palette in Adobe Illustrator CS3?
On the left Tool palette, I can't right click on the buttons such as Pen Tool, Text, Pencil Tool, etc. so that I can see the other options. I am trying to create outlines on my text in Adobe Illustrator CS2. Ive done it before, but for some reason it will not work....its greyed out in the menu (meaning i can not even select it from the type menu)

In order to access the options in the fly-opt that pops you simply need to click and hold your mouse till the fly-out thing pops up with the extra options pertaining to that particular tool. If it has a little arrow, simply click and hold your mouse.

Actually on second though go with the middle of the road Macbook MB403LL/A ($1,299) because of the additional hard drive Space and Ram that you'll probably need while photo editing. Or you could always wait and upgrade the Ram yourself and get a good external hard drive.

Your question is a little vague, in that ';filmmaking'; involves so many different disciplines. Do you want to direct, produce, write, be the cameraman, etc? i think you need to define what kind of editing you want to do. If you want to take the drawings from your scans and make them --- true illustrations - vector based so they are crisp clean and scaleable not matter what - illustrator is the way to go... the new live paint %26amp; live color %26amp; live trace features in CS3 will give you a more ';natural'; drawing effect. However - it's been my experience that people learning illustrator have a steeper learning curve. But i think the art is much cleaner and crisper in illustrator.
Photoshop is more natural as far as computer programs go for design of photos and scans... but - if you're not sure, watch some training videos, like mine at xtrain, for free before making the big investment in either program.

I have an Adobe Illustrator CS3 file artboard size A0. Export to jpg cuts off most of the image. How do i fix?
The artboard has nothing to do with where the image is cut off. You can hide it if you want: ';View';, ';Hide Artboard';. The only reason I can think of for your image to be getting cut off would be that maybe you have a crop area in there? To release select ';Object';, ';Crop area';, ';Release';.

yes there is a huge difference. the only way to get the true color you want is to go to the printer with your client and monitor the process. when you are there you can have the printer adjust the levels of cymk to get the colors you desire.

You can't directly make a booklet in Illustrator because it doesn't think in terms of multiple pages. There are ways around it; certainly you could create each page spread separately, but it would be a pain to do it. You would have to manually add page numbers, there is no page flow so there is no automatic system.

Graphics software, what is better Adobe illustrator or Corel Draw X4?
Some federal contract work requires the work is archived in CorelDraw file format. Thus, you see a lot of military insignia in the clip art. CorelDraw files can be huge and fail to reload after a lot of edits is my criticism. As far as better?

I've never used Corel Draw.
They say It's easier to learn, and cheaper. But I don't see how Illustrator is any harder to learn. Your vectoring... Plus you'll get comfortable with illustrators layout, sometimes you may need to have the navigator right in front of you, sometimes the color swatches.. everything just flows with illustrator.
For any logo design, typesetting, layout, I use Illustrator.
Illustrator is strictly for vector design, the filters on Illustrator won't be much use to you if you need to brush up a photograph or something.
For a 'graphics' program I use Photoshop.
p.s. to be honest I don't know any professional that uses corel anymoreGraphics software, what is better Adobe illustrator or Corel Draw X4?
Adobe has more reputation among graphic designers. Photoshop and Illustrator are most used for professional graphic designers. I used Corel before and then changed to Illustrator.
Illustrator allows you to create more professional illustrations, and gives your more quality when exporting graphics for web.
In my opinion, if you can afford buy Illustrator then use it, otherwise use Corel. Both will take you time to learn, there is no difference in that part.

I've never used Corel Draw.
They say It's easier to learn, and cheaper. But I don't see how Illustrator is any harder to learn. Your vectoring... Plus you'll get comfortable with illustrators layout, sometimes you may need to have the navigator right in front of you, sometimes the color swatches.. everything just flows with illustrator.

My cursor is messed up in Illustrator. What's wrong.?

Can you open an Adobe Photoshop Illustrator CS3 file on a PC if the file was done on a Mac?
