What does it do?In programs such as Indesign %26amp; Illustrator, what is slug?

This comes from an old printing term - it's basically an area around the page - allowing for trim marks, notes, reg marks etc etc.
Also we use them in the trade when making up folders etc which require pockets larger than the page area.
