I've recently started using this program (i'm more used to Photoshop) and I'm having problems resizing the artboard. I want to add space at the bottom of the document but when I resize it expands the document top and bottom which messes with my guides and layout. Is there any (easy!) way to expand the document on the bottom only?

Not that I know of. AI's not really designed for layout work 鈥?more for drawing logos and diagrams etc. You need InDesign for that sort of stuff. You can always unlock your guides and then move them just like any other object. Putting them on a separate layer makes it even easier.
