neither is really for web design.


if you meant graphics to put onto a web page, then photoshop has the edge.
You can't really use Photoshop or Illustrator to design a website, but you can use them to create the graphics for the website.





Photoshop will have an advantage over illustrator because Illustrator only deals with text and graphics with solid color or gradients. Photoshop can also do what illustrator can do (but not as well) and you can create/edit photographs and scanned images.
illustrator is used for print work, such as flyers, magazine layouts, business cards, etc. photoshop is used for web design.








i think it has to do with the way that the individual programs handle design and color management.
